The Evolution of Childcare Leave in Japan and Risk Management in Project Management

In the past, childcare leave was only taken by female employees but recently male employees now have the privilege to take childcare leaves due to some amendments in the Japanese law.

In project management, it is important for project managers to assure the safety and welfare of female employees when taking childcare leave due to pregnancy while assuring the success of the project.
However, nowadays, project managers may have to manage the same kind of risks for male employees.

In my team, two female employees will be on childcare leave for about 2 years.
In addition to these two employees, two men will also take childcare leaves for about 3months.
I had enough time to make a plan to delegate their tasks to other members because they informed me 6 months ago regarding their plan to take a childcare leave.

I made a plan to delegate their tasks to other members as follows.

1)List up their tasks by themselves
2)Postpone the task schedule until the end of their childcare leave
3)Estimate the time needed to accomplish each task
4)Define the skills required necessary for the tasks
5)Collaborate and get agreement with members who will take over the tasks

I hope that the tasks will be successfully accomplished without conflict.
